What is an LPI file

LPI files mostly belong to Lazarus IDE.

To find out what program is needed to open LPI files, you need to determine the file format. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. The LPI file type is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 30% of all LPI files are Lazarus Project Information files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 1 KB to 100 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: <CONFIG>, <General>, <ProjectOptions>, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <PathDelim Value="\"/>, <Flags>, <SessionStorage Value="InProjectDir"/>, <Version Value="12"/> and <Version Value="11"/>. Examples of file names are cheatengine.lpi or Project1.lpi.
• 25% of all LPI files save the data in .NET file format. The .NET format is used to save Microsoft .NET Framework objects to a file (ex. save game state as file) via object serialization. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. LPI files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 11 KB - 260 KB. The files contain the following words: %Logic.NET.Win.Base.ClassPrintFileInfo, ILogic.NET.Win.Base, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null, _FileData, _FileFormat, _LstDocs, _PageSettings and _ShowPrintP.

The remaining 45% of all LPI files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, LivePix project and GZIP. Sometimes used for arplugin, management, alto, palo, adaccount, island, names, photo or point.
