MOT file format details:
To view or edit MOT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the MOT files looks like this:
MOT is a very commonly used file extension and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all MOT files have the same signature S0. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The file size is in the range of 43 KB to 3 MB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Files like these are sometimes connected to bartc, flash, release, mini, software, aarch, boot and scif.
- 3% of all MOT files use the same file format, which have the signature S3. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are 71 KB to 2 MB in size, with a median of 2 MB.
All other MOT files (42%) have different formats, the following 13 formats can be found: LightWave Motion data, Java, hspv, subject, Data, Coordinates, MOT, normal and ENCRYPT. Sometimes used for walk, subject, mask, burah, danko or data. If you want to find out which format your MOT file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .mot file to view".

How to solve problems with MOT files
- Associate the MOT file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open 3d motion data files. Because only the current version supports the latest MOT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the NewTek manufacturer website after an available LightWave 3D update.
- To make sure that your MOT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
