What is an OSF file?

OSF files mostly belong to OsmAnd.

OsmAnd Offline Map Files: The most common use of the OSF extension is for exporting offline maps. These files are actually ZIP archives that store map data for use with the OsmAnd application. Installer Executable Files
A smaller group uses the OSF extension for Windows executables made by the Open Software Foundation. These are installer packages that are often compressed with tools like Inno Setup.

XML-Based Documents
Some OSF files use XML formatting. some are Russian education files and some are Dutch construction documents that follow an open specification format. They store structured information in plain text.

Subtitle and Other Formats

How to open OSF files

You need a suitable software like OsmAnd to open an OSF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OSF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OSF file directly in the browser:. OSF file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. The OSF file type is a very commonly used file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in OSF files are:

• 75% of all OSF files are based on the zip format, so several files are compressed and saved in one OSF file. An OSF file includes 2 to 30 files. Common included file names are items.json and \\. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are 2 KB to 1 MB in size, with a median of 59 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: items.json. The file name Export_2020-06-01.osf is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to rahal, team, osmand, parcourir, carte, dzien, moto, browse, tracks and pied.
• 7% of all OSF files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are not plain text files, so they also contain binary data. The files are on average 100 KB in size and range from 70 KB to 120 KB. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, <Document type=", PrevWrite, LastName, LastWrite and " PrevName=".
