What is an OTT file?

OTT files mostly belong to Writer by Apache. An OTT file is a text document template saved in OpenDocument Format. The OTT file is essentially the same as an ODT document saved in the same format. It contains text, graphics, images, and embedded objects compressed into a single ZIP archive. However, Writer and other word processors identify an OTT file is a template and treat it as such. A single OTT template can be used as the boilerplate for creating multiple ODT documents. OTT is also the filename extension of Nokia phone ringtones.

How to open OTT files

You need a suitable software like Writer to open an OTT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OTT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OTT file directly in the browser:. To view or edit OTT files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the OTT files is as follows:

The OTT file extension mainly uses a special format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 95% of all OTT files use ZIP compression, multiple files are compressed and combined into one OTT file. Primarily 16 to 20 files are included. File names inside are content.xml, manifest.rdf, meta.xml, mimetype, settings.xml, styles.xml, \Configurations2\, \Configurations2\accelerator\, \Configurations2\accelerator\current.xml, \Configurations2\floater\, \Configurations2\images\, \Configurations2\images\Bitmaps\, \Configurations2\menubar\, \Configurations2\popupmenu\, \Configurations2\progressbar\, \Configurations2\statusbar\, \Configurations2\toolbar\, \Configurations2\toolpanel\, \META-INF\manifest.xml and \Thumbnails\. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. The files are 13 KB to 270 KB in size, with a median of 43 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as mimetypeapplication/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text-templatePK and Configurations2. Such files sometimes refer to plantilla, vorlage, template, anlage, solicitud, rapport, modele and brief.
• 3% of all OTT files start with the magic bytes 02 4A 3A, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. OTT files are between 16 bytes and 160 bytes in size. Examples of file names are pickup.ott.

All other OTT files (2%) have different formats. They are often associated with bewerbung, briefkopf, documento, scheidung, calendar, holidays, demande, informe, monthly, modelo, annex, acta or cast.
