What is a PLI file?

PLI files mostly belong to Płatnik. PLI files are not a single format but a label used for files in different domains.
For example, one type of PLI file is used in Polish banking systems. These files carry bank transfer instructions and are handled by specialized software, such as the application provided by PKO BP.
Other instances of PLI files follow the macOS property list structure. They often use XML or the plist format and store system or application configuration data. These files are managed with tools like Apple Property List Editor, as found on the Apple website or via Xcode on Apple Developer.
Additional uses include:

OpenToonz palette files that save a collection of colors for animation work, often referred to in relation to the Toonz Raster Level Format (OpenToonz docs).

Files that either contain PostScript language image data or act as playlists for certain media players.

Files used by French public procurement systems, which may be archived in ZIP format.

How to open a PLI file

You need a suitable software like Płatnik to open a PLI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PLI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PLI file directly in the browser:. To view or edit PLI files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. • 50% of all PLI files have the same signature 110. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 1 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The following filename is common: 20180601.PLI. Such files are related to przelewy, lista, podstawowa, wynagrodzenie, roczna, nagr, refunds, paczka, mcash and etat.
• 8% of all PLI files start with the bytes 00 00 00 00, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. PLI files can be up to 1 KB in size, but are often around 280 bytes - 1 KB. The files contain the following words: C000000.
