Opening a PPSM File

• Main Use: Microsoft PowerPoint software is widely used in the preparation of slideshows and presentations. PowerPoint software uses PPSM files to save presentations with embedded macros, in a slideshow format. Macros are scripts (or lines of code denoting a sequence of mouse clicks and keystrokes) that facilitate automation of repetitive actions like creating a new slide in a pre-saved format. PowerPoint software utilizes macros to accomplish tasks while the presentation runs, such as accessing and displaying other presentations, navigating to a particular slide depending on the responses of the audience to a particular question, or running an audio/video file information across various pages which can several data forms such as video, audio, text, animations, and pictures. PPSM files are identical to PPTM files in every aspect except that the PPSM files open by default in the viewing mode whereas PPTM files open in the editing mode when accessing using the PowerPoint software.
• Adoption: On Windows PCs and Macs, Microsoft PowerPoint is the best software to open and run macro-enabled PPSM files as intended, as it completely supports the embedded macros in the slides, slide-formats, text, and image placement. There are other software mentioned below, which can open the PPSM presentations but are not guaranteed to run the embedded macros or correctly display the slide-formatting. On Windows PCs, Corel Presentations, SoftMaker Office, OpenOffice Impress, and WPS Office Presentation can open these PPSM files. On macOS platforms, PPSM files can also be opened using Apple Keynote, OpenOffice Impress, and WPS Office Presentation. OpenOffice Impress and WPS Office Presentation can open PPSM files in Linux systems as well. Google Slides is an online tool that can open PPSM files.
