How to open a PVI file

You need a suitable software like evivo to open a PVI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PVI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PVI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert PVI files:

  1. evivo
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PVI files are often referred to as evivo raster images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
  2. Picture Browser (Cache Index) by Canon Software Publishing
Picture Browser is included with the Canon Publishing Suite. Seen as part of the two files IMGCACHE.PVI and IMGCACHE.PVD.
  3. POD-Bot
POD-Bot is a 'Bot' (an artificial player) for the Half-Life Modification Counter-Strike. By installing the Bot you don't have to go on-line every time you want to play. For playing custom made maps you need custom waypoints. [Note: POD-Bot was housed on http://www.nuclearbox.com/ but that seems to be down at the time of this writing. Don't confuse this POD-bot (actually Ping of Death-bot) with the PodBot Podcast receiver.]
  4. PVElite (Pressure Vessel Analysis File) by COADE, Inc.
PVElite is a comprehensive program for the complete structural design or analysis of tall towers and horizontal vessels according to latest standards from ASME, PD 5500 (British Code), UBC, EN 13445, API-579 and the Welding Research Council.
  5. Wave Corrector (Anti-piracy File) by Ganymede Test & Measurement
Wave Corrector is a WYSIWYG waveform editor running on Microsoft Windows. Use Wave Corrector to rejuvenate your old analog recordings before transferring them to CD. The .PVI file is generated when you install Wave Corrector or update to a later version. If the program detects an unauthorised registration key then the file is not generated and correction data becomes scrambled.

How to solve problems with PVI files

  • Associate the PVI file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open protected image files. Because only the current version supports the latest PVI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available evivo update.
  • To make sure that your PVI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
