Opening a REPX File
The REPX file type is primarily associated with DevExpress XtraReports.
What is a REPX file?
These files are saved in an XML-based format (often using UTF-8 encoding), and in some cases the contents are stored in a compressed ZIP format.
How to open REPX files
You need a suitable software like DevExpress XtraReports to open a REPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your REPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a REPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert REPX files:
- DevExpress XtraReports
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. REPX files are often referred to as DevExpress XtraReports developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- XtraReports (Report Definition File) by Developer Express Inc.XtraReports helps you create reports for end-users, yet maintain all the capabilities of today's reporting solutions. With full Microsoft Visual Studio .NET integration, XtraReports Suite allows you to build reports in the same exact way you build a typical Windows Forms application. A .REPX file contains information on a report's type name, all the property values, and all the property values of report bands and controls. Note, that the .REPX extension is not mandatory, however it is a standard extension used in XtraReports for files which contain report layouts. This file format is classified as XML.
REPX file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below you will find our evaluation of the REPX files:
REPX is a very commonly used file extension and mainly uses a defined REPX format. The file formats most commonly found in REPX files are:
- 65% of all REPX files belong to DevExpress Report layout. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. A typical file size is 100 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The following keywords are characteristic: Version, /// <XRTypeInfo>, AssemblyLocation, DevExpress, XtraReports and Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b88d1754d700e49a</AssemblyFullName>. Files like these are about invoice, report, jual, template, faktur, label, order, receipt, print and sales.
- 25% of all REPX files are DevExpress Report layout files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. REPX files can be up to 4 MB in size, but are often around 6 KB - 110 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, XtraReportsLayoutSerializer SerializerVersion and Ref="1" ControlType="DevExpress.XtraReports.UI.XtraReport. Such files sometimes refer to xtra, bill, barcode, phieu, standard, reports, thermal, detail, simple and code.
All other REPX files (10%) have different formats, the following 4 formats exist: ZIP and XML. Sometimes used for temp, laporan, summary, item, list or product. If you want to find out which format your REPX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .repx file to view".
