All about RPD Files
The RPD file type is primarily associated with RapidFile Database.
What is an RPD file?
Structure: RPD file store BI server metadata. This includes, but is not limited to:
- schemas (logical and physical)
- physical-to-logical mappings
- aggregate table navigation
They are created upon opening the configuration utility in any software from the BI group for the first time. After which, they are editable through the Administration Tool.
Compatibility: BI servers (and thus RPD files) support the main three operating systems: Windows, macOS, and Linux. The files are editable via the original software only.
Other associations: RPD could also rever to a "Raw Programming Data" file, used by Intel's Quartus Prime software. This is a binary file that contains configuration information for use outside of the original software. They are generated by converting existing POF ("Programmer Object File") files.
How to open an RPD file
You need a suitable software like RapidFile Database to open an RPD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your RPD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a RPD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

RPD file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the RPD files is as follows:
The RPD file extension is rather rarely used and covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in RPD files are:
- 20% of all RPD files start with the bytes STOR crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. RPD files are between 78 KB and 7 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. The following keywords are characteristic: Created with RonyaSoft Doc Engine, STOR, UhiF, Index.xml, Users, Page0001 and Thumb0001. Untitled1.rpd is a typical file name. Such files are related to poster.
- 20% of all RPD files start with the magic bytes RPD, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 2 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. PUBLIC, Releases, Version 10 and Version 11. A usual file name is League_PerfDump.rpd. These files are often associated with league, dump and perf.
The remaining 60% of all RPD files are different files with different signatures, often e.g. RapidFile Data and eXc. Often described as analytics or auto. If you want to find out what your RPD file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

an rpd database file is a special file format by Ashton-Tate and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with RPD files
- Associate the RPD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open database files. Because only the current version supports the latest RPD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Ashton-Tate manufacturer website after an available RapidFile Database update.
- To make sure that your RPD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .RPD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
