What is an SCG file?

SCG files mostly belong to CryENGINE Sandbox Editor. SCG files have two main uses.
Some of these files are 3D model files used by game engines. They store scene graph data that defines objects, textures, and lighting in a game scene. Developers working on titles like Supremacy 1914 (associated with World of Tanks Blitz) use tools such as the CryENGINE Sandbox Editor to manage these files.

How do you open SCG files?

You need a suitable software like CryENGINE Sandbox Editor to open an SCG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To find out what program is needed to open SCG files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the SCG files comes to the following conclusion:

The SCG file extension is not widely used. Such a file is used by different programs with different formats. The file formats most commonly found in SCG files are:

• 40% of all SCG files have the same signature SC. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. SCG files can be up to 13 MB in size, but are often around 860 KB - 1 MB. The file type is very recent. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. ##name, PolygonGroup, SCPG, cubeTextureCoordCount, indexCount, indexFormat, indices, packing and primitiveC. The file name A-20.scg or E-100.scg is typical for these files.
• 40% of all SCG files store the data in the HDF5 file format. HDF5 is short for Hierarchical Data Format version 5. It is an open source file format for storing and organizing large amounts of data. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 150 KB in size and range from 100 KB to 480 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. TREE. These files are often associated with graph.
