What is an SDC file?
- Star Office Calc files: SDC files are created by the Star Office and OpenOffice programs to build spreadsheets that contain cells, columns, and background arrangements. The SDC spreadsheet files are flexible and can be shared across various platforms and other spreadsheet applications, e.g. Excel. Other programs that are compatible with SDC files include LibreOffice.

As soon as they are downloaded, they get installed and the SDC file is automatically deleted.
- Stardock Central Download files: These SDC files contain application installation data. Installer files are generated and stored for later retrieval in a backup folder that is created automatically. The files are retained for future reinstallations and upgrades.

SDC file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the SDC files is as follows:
The SDC extension is quite commonly used. The file itself includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 25% of all SDC files have the same signature SLD2. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 49 MB in size and range from 2 MB to 300 MB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. SLD2, IMGA and AIQA. 5487_0.619.sdc or 549A_0.105.sdc is a typical file name.
- 20% of all SDC files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. The first 8 bytes of the CFB format are D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). There is also a globally unique identifier c6a5b861-85d6-11d1-89cb-008029e4b0b1. The internal containers are called CompObj, Ole, SfxDocumentInfo, SfxStyleSheets, StarCalcDocument, SummaryInformation, persist elements, SfxWindows, BasicManager2 and StarBASIC. SDC files are between 19 KB and 230 KB in size.
All other SDC files (55%) have different formats, often e.g. ArcGIS geospatial and attribute data, ZIP, certificate, RIFF and INDEX. These files sometimes refer to settings, summit, model, spbse, image or cost. Just click the "Choose your .sdc file to view" button on this page to find out what your SDC file is.
