SIM file format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the SIM files looks like this:
You will often come across the SIM file type. This covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in SIM files are:
- 20% of all SIM files belong to SAP Itutor tutorial. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 420 KB and 2 MB in size. This file type was primarily in use more than 10 years ago. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. iTut. These files are often associated with create, avax, home, data, configuration, management, equipment, contract, creation, purchase, reaction, resource, action, master, auto, bank, list, mail and send.
- 15% of all SIM files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "CHIT" at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. SIM files can be up to 16 MB in size, but are often around 2 MB - 13 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: CHIT, CHLC, ICTD, ICUD, INITIIPM, ISP2ICSD, IIIT, lICSIINIC, IIET, c6OICIC, CHNA and OO ClassInstance. Examples of file names are Bricks_001_DDDS_1024.sim. These files are often associated with ddds, bricks, polii, tiles, concrete and metal.
All other SIM files (65%) have no consistent format, often, for example, ITI-SIM Model, ZIP, JSON, .NET, DBPF, Binary, PGTS and SIM. These files sometimes refer to disk, warfare, modern, duty, call or phone. If you want to find out what your SIM file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with SIM files
- Associate the SIM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open custom game contents. Because only the current version supports the latest SIM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Electronic Arts manufacturer website after an available The Sims 3 update.
- To make sure that your SIM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SIM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
