What is a SIM file

SIM files mostly belong to The Sims 3 by Electronic Arts. Custom game content and characters in The Sims 3 life simulation game are stored in SIM files. These SIM files usually contain a Sim (a virtual person) as well as the Sim's appearance and other characteristics. SIM is also the extension of tutorial files created with SAP Tutor interactive tutorial creation and learning software for SAP's digital products. Steam's game backup service uses SIM files to store backup information such as the configuration for restoring SID (backup data) files. SIM is also a data file format for storing software performance data collected by VTune Profiler, a performance monitoring tool. Simulation parameters used by CARE-S sewer networks simulation and maintenance software, are stored in SIM files. Stagecast Creator uses a different SIM format to store simulations. How to open SIM files

You need a suitable software like The Sims 3 to open a SIM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). This file type was primarily in use more than 10 years ago. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. iTut. These files are often associated with create, avax, home, data, configuration, management, equipment, contract, creation, purchase, reaction, resource, action, master, auto, bank, list, mail and send.
15% of all SIM files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "CHIT" at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. SIM files can be up to 16 MB in size, but are often around 2 MB - 13 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: CHIT, CHLC, ICTD, ICUD, INITIIPM, ISP2ICSD, IIIT, lICSIINIC, IIET, c6OICIC, CHNA and OO ClassInstance. Examples of file names are Bricks_001_DDDS_1024.sim. These files are often associated with ddds, bricks, polii, tiles, concrete and metal.
