TFW is a very common file type and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 45% of all TFW files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "30 2E" at the beginning. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. TFW files can be up to 150 bytes in size, but are often around 43 bytes - 100 bytes. The file type is old but is used even today. These files are often associated with ortho, mosaic, group, transparent, production, geotiff, hector and rgbi.
• 15% of all TFW files use the same file format, which have the signature . These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 150 bytes to 220 bytes in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 0.0000000000. Files like these are about export, orthomosaic, plan, elevation, toolbox and band.
