What is a TOD file?

TOD files mostly belong to Everio by JVC. TOD is a high definition video file format used to store footage captured with solid state JVC camcorders such as the GZ-HD7, GZ-HD5, and GZ-HD5. A TOD recording contains high definition MPEG-2 (H.262) transport streams similar to those found in the MTS video clips captured with AVCHD-supported devices. Videos stored in such files typically have the same frame rate, frame size, and aspect ratio as 1080i HDV videos. The TOD media container may also include an audio stream compressed with Dolby Digital codec. TOD videos are playable with the media software (usually PowerDirector) shipped with JVC camcorders. Standard video players are typically unable to play TOD video recordings. Most TOD-supported JVC camcorders also support MOD recording format which is for standard definition recording. Crysis, a first-person shooter video game stores time-of-day settings in a TOD file which is used to define the sun and sky settings in the game.

How to open a TOD file

You need a suitable software like Everio to open a TOD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
