What is a UWL file

UWL files mostly belong to GroupWise by Novell, Inc. GroupWise is collaboration and productivity software. This file contains user-added words to the GroupWise E-Mail dictionary, as well as QuickCorrect entries. The filename pattern for all GroupWise User Word List files is WT$$&&.uwl, where $$ is the GroupWise UWL version (e.g., 61 = GroupWise User Word List Version 6.1) and && is the language code (e.g., US for US English, UK for British English, etc.). The file is stored as Unicode text. In some cases, GroupWise installs this file in the root of your C: drive, forcing all users on the PC to use the same user dictionary and QuickCorrect list, but it can be moved/copied to each user's profile and customized.

How to open a UWL file

You need a suitable software like GroupWise to open a UWL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UWL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UWL file directly in the browser:. 80% of all UWL files belong to Corel Writing Tools User Word List. The files are using the common file format WordPerfect. WordPerfect is a word processor now owned by Corel and has a long history that began in the 1980s. It may contain formatted text, tables, charts, drawn objects, and images. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are often between 540 bytes and 14 KB in size. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. A usual file name is WT13US.UWL or WT10US.UWL.
8% of all UWL files start with the bytes 94 19 09 14 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 4 KB to 760 KB in size.
