What is a WPG file?

WPG files mostly belong to WordPerfect by Corel. WPG is the filename extension of images stored in WordPerfect Graphics Metafile format. The applications in WordPerfect productivity software suite use WPG files to store 256-color raster and/or vector images which are typically used as clip art embedded in documents. A WPG file begins with a 16-byte header, followed by the record area which contains a sequence of objects in the image and their corresponding attributes stored as records. Corel programs and third-party tools such as CorelDRAW, PaintShop, Inkscape, and Canvas can open images saved in WPG format. WPG is also the filename extension of some image files used by Iron Sight first-person shooter video game. Such WPG files are actually PNG images with a different filename extension. WildTangent Games video game distribution service desktop software also uses PNG images that have WPG filename extension. The Internet media type of such images are application/x-wildtangent-web-driver and application/x-wildtangent-web-driver20.

How to open a WPG file

You need a suitable software like WordPerfect to open a WPG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your WPG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a WPG file directly in the browser:. How do you convert WPG files to SVG, PDF, JPG, PNG, ...

WPG is not a commonly used file extension and is primarily used by a single program. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 80% of all WPG files are associated with WordPerfect Graphics bitmap files, which internally utilize the well-known WordPerfect format. WordPerfect is a word processor now owned by Corel and has a long history that began in the 1980s. It may contain formatted text, tables, charts, drawn objects, and images. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 6 KB in size and range from 960 bytes to 69 KB. This file type was primarily in use more than 20 years ago. These files are attributed to eucar, grab, island, monjas and symeuc.
• 8% of all WPG files start with the bytes 40 00 22 01, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. WPG files are between 1 KB and 52 KB in size. An example of a file name is MAIN.wpg.
