What is a WVF file?

WVF files mostly belong to BenchVue. WVF files are waveform data files used by test and measurement instruments.
These files store captured signal waveforms from devices such as Yokogawa DL750/SL1400 ScopeCorder, Agilent Technologies BenchVue, and Keysight Technologies BenchVue. In some cases, the file includes an XML structure that organizes both raw data and instrument settings.

How to open WVF files

You need a suitable software like BenchVue to open a WVF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the WVF files is as follows:

WVF is not a common file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 30% of all WVF files are associated with Yokogawa waveform data. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 320 KB to 8 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. %WDF, ACQI, FHDR, HIST, OFST, RTMI and XYRC.
• 20% of all WVF files have the same signature 1.00.00. These files contain text and words, not binary data. A typical file size is 170 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: 1.00.00, VOLATILE, 1000, .1, 0,16000,1 and Agilent.ArbitrarySegment.1,16000. Some examples of file names are 20180601DataFile_.wvf. Such WVF files store data about data.
