Notes about the XAC file extension:

Errors in your registry are one of the common causes for incorrect file associations on your windows system. It is highly recommended that you check your registry for file association errors (will also check for any other registry errors).

The XAC file type is primarily associated with 'GNUCash' by The GNUCash Project. GnuCash creates several types of files to help ensure that your data is not lost. You may see files with the following file extensions: xac, log, LCK, LNK in the same directory as your primary data file. Each time you save your data file, a backup copy will also be saved with the extension xac. This backup file is a complete copy of your previous data file, and the filename format refers to the data file, year, month, day and time of the backup. For example, the filename gcashdata.20060414185747.xac indicates this is a backup copy of the file gcashdata saved in the year 2006, April 14, at 6:57:47 p.m.

To restore an old backup file, simply open the .xac file with the date to which you wish to return. Be sure and save this file under a different name; do not use a .xac extension for a regular data file name.
