Opening XDB Files
The XDB file type is primarily associated with XDB Viewer.
What is an XDB file?
For example, some XDB files use an XML format and work as internal databases. In such cases, they may serve as game data storage files in applications like Unity Pro XL.
Apart from XML, other XDB files work in different ways:
How to open XDB files
You need a suitable software like XDB Viewer to open an XDB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XDB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XDB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert XDB files:
- XDB Viewer
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. XDB files are often referred to as XDB Viewer databases because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- HyperCD (HyperLOCK) by John Galt Media, Inc.HyperCD is a brand name that describes a way of removing a small slice of data from a digital file such that the file is made unreadable. Some have invented the word "encrippling" to describe this process. Only when the encrippled file on a computer is linked with the missing piece of data on a Web site can the user view the content. Often a CD will be issued in this format, forcing the user to the maker's site before they can view whatever is on the CD. Program ID is HyperLOCK
- Norton AntiVirus (Update File) by Symantec CorporationThese files use the following naming convention: The first two characters (VD) stand for Virus Definition. The rest of the file name is a hex representation of a binary structure. The hex will need to be converted into binary to parse the information. You can use Calc.exe for converting hexadecimal numbers to binary and then decimal. Related links: Virus Definition File Name Convention
- xText (Compiled Database) by Flambeaux SoftwarexText is an early hypertext presentation program. Designed for tutorials, xText took text files and compiled them into .XDB databases that a reader program could then display. The pages could have hyperlinks and the total tutorials quite large. Even though it was a DOS program xText tutorials worked fine under Windows with mouse support. The program stopped being distributed in 1993. This file format is classified as Database.
XDB file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our examination of the XDB files comes to the following conclusion:
The file type with the extension 'XDB' includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in XDB files are:
- 20% of all XDB files are based on the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The average file size is 4 KB with most files being between 500 bytes and 98 KB in size. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, ObjectRecordID, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>, <FBExchangeFile>, <fileHeader company="Schneider, Schneider Automation, dateTime, date_and_time, href and product. Such files sometimes refer to model and nightmare.
- 15% of all XDB files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "AF 04 CC 01 00 00 00 00" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 1 KB to 41 KB in size. An example of a file name is pcst_1.xdb.
All other XDB files (65%) have no consistent format, such as Ability document, GZIP, SQL, FORMAT and TABLENO. Often described as controlli, accm, apparato, dict or psub. If you want to find out which format your XDB file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .xdb file to analyze".
Technical Data for XDB File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.

an xdb database file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with XDB files
- Associate the XDB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open database files. Because only the current version supports the latest XDB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available XDB Viewer update.
- To make sure that your XDB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .XDB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
