What is an XHTML file

XHTML files mostly belong to Firefox by Mozilla. An XHTML file is a web page written in Extensible HyperText Markup Language. This language initially extended HyperText Markup Language version 4 (HTML4) to include more features and constraints. Desktop browsers can ignore errors, parse and render a standard HTML web page even if the developer leaves out the closing tag of an element or even the <body>, <!DOCTYPE>, or <head>. Such omission would break a website on an older mobile phone browser. XHTML's stricter syntax was developed to fix this issue. For instance, its <!DOCTYPE>, <head>, and <body> elements are mandatory and all element attributes must be in lowercase.
