What is an XPA file?

XPA files mostly belong to Pelco Digital Sentry. Pelco Video Export Format: If you have an XPA file, it is most likely a file exported from a Pelco surveillance system. These files are produced by devices such as the Pelco Digital Video Recorder and are part of the Pelco DX System. Project Archive Variant:

How do you open XPA files?

You need a suitable software like Pelco Digital Sentry to open an XPA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XPA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XPA file directly in the browser:. See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. XPA files are often referred to as Pelco Digital Sentry videos because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
SoniqSync (Extended Playlist) by SoniqCast, LLC
SoniqCast uses eXtended Playlist Attributes for storing attribute information for SoniqSync Extensions to standard playlists for audio media. *.XPA invokes SoniqSync.exe and that application will then, in turn, invoke the corresponding shell-registered application for each of the embedded media files (i.e., similar to a *.M3U playlist in that it contains a collection of media clips). The Mime types used with this association are: text/xml. This file format is classified as XML.
Xpandata DB Transfer
Originally defined by Xpandata 1n 1979, this file type is now used internationally for secure transfer of email and secure information using FTP and a variety of eSafeMail readers with SMTP/IMAP emulators. Ver. 7.2 specification of the file type is now being defined by southwestuk.com. (23 May 07)

To find out what program is needed to open XPA files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the XPA files looks like this:

The XPA file extension is rather rarely used and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in XPA files are:

85% of all XPA files use the same file format, which have the signature 02 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 1C. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are on average 310 MB in size and range from 12 MB to 2 GB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. These files can be linked to video, interview, incident, booking and export.
6% of all XPA files use ZIP compression, so several files are combined and compressed into one XPA file. 7 to 110 compressed files are common. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are often between 3 KB and 120 MB in size.
