What is a ZUML file

ZUML files mostly belong to Poseidon for UML by Gentleware AG. Poseidon for UML is a professional UML CASE tool with roots in the open source project ArgoUML. ZUML files are ZIP files containing a .PROJ file with project information, and an .XMI file with the model and layout information; in accordance with the Diagram Interchange standard.

Since .ZUML files come from different programs, they aren't universally openable.

2. Check the Header: Inspect the first bytes in a text or hex editor:
   • PK: Indicates a ZIP archive, typical for Gentleware's Poseidon for UML projects.
   • <?xml: Suggests readable XML, common for ZK User Interface Markup.
3. Use the Original Software: The original program is usually required; try Gentleware Poseidon for UML, Eclipse, or a basic text editor, but ask the sender if uncertain.

To find out what program is needed to open ZUML files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. ZUML is rarely used as a file extension and mainly uses a special format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 95% of all ZUML files internally use the ZIP format, multiple files are compressed and combined into one ZUML file. Primarily 2 to 3 files are included. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. ZUML files are between 7 KB and 96 KB in size. The keywords proj3 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is ConvertitoreEuroDollaro.zuml or concretemodel.zuml. Files like these have the following tags: convertitore, dollaro, euro, analisi, tecnica and rgsa.
