Opening a BCI File
The BCI file type is primarily associated with Belarc Advisor.
What is a BCI file
In addition, some BCI files are used as firmware update files. For example, they work with the ESU LokProgrammer to update model train controllers. Another variant serves as a compressed image file that may contain encrypted JPEG metadata. Lastly, the term Binary Coded Image appears in some cases, which relates to a bootloader image file created with Borland C++ Builder. More details on that can be found on the Borland C++ Builder page.
Below are the main uses of BCI files:
How to open a BCI file
You need a suitable software like Belarc Advisor to open a BCI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BCI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BCI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert BCI files:
- Belarc Advisor
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BCI files are often referred to as Belarc Advisor data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Advisor (Computer Profile Report) by BelarcStrongly recommend that everyone get the free Advisor product, run it on their computer after every new software install or change and save the report. The information in these reports can save significant time should problems occur which require you to reinstall your system or have support requirements where the support people will require information about your system.
BCI format details:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the BCI files:
The BCI file extension is not found very often and predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 75% of all BCI files start with the bytes #BCI, which are crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The average file size is 53 KB with most files being between 34 KB and 75 KB in size. It is a modern file type. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as #BCI. Files like these are about desktop, laptop and trainee, and have often person-related content.
- 5% of all BCI files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "85 02 0E 03" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 41 MB. A usual file name is CabControl_update_4-2-8.bci. Such files sometimes refer to update, control and ecos.
All other BCI files (20%) have no uniform format. The category is rescue. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your BCI file!

a bci report file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with BCI files
- Associate the BCI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open report files. Because only the current version supports the latest BCI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Belarc Advisor update.
- To make sure that your BCI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BCI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
