What is a BD file

BD files mostly belong to Varies by type.

The BD files are not one single type of file. Their purpose depends on the software that creates them. They can hold different kinds of information.

Printer Data Files: some of these files are used to store printer instructions, as seen with YTM’s BarTender document files.

How can I open a BD file?

You need a suitable software like Varies by type to open a BD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. The BD file extension is quite common and does not have a uniform file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 15% of all BD files start with the magic bytes 00 48 00 30 00 34 00 36, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain text and words as well as binary data. The files are on average 77 KB in size and range from 40 KB to 170 KB. The file type is very recent. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. PRINTER and FORMPRINTER.
• 10% of all BD files start with the bytes LZ4Block crucial for this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 130 bytes to 990 bytes in size, with a median of 200 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. LZ4Block*. A common filename is 99.bd.

All other BD files (75%) have no consistent format, the following 8 formats exist: SQL, PDF, JSON, UTF-8, MAJOR and BRITONLEAPDIG.
