All about BD Files
The BD file type is primarily associated with Varies by type.
What is a BD file
The BD files are not one single type of file. Their purpose depends on the software that creates them. They can hold different kinds of information.
FilExt.com notes: The way to open and view a BD file depends on which kind it is. Check the file properties or header to see if it contains text markers (like JSON) or binary data. Use the corresponding application—for example, BarTender for printer data, Xilinx Vivado for block designs, or Adobe Reader for encoded PDF drawings.
How can I open a BD file?
You need a suitable software like Varies by type to open a BD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert BD files:
- Varies by type
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. BD files are often referred to as Varies by type data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Solaris (Browser Data File) by Sun Microsystems, Inc.A .BD file is a browser data file created by the compiler when you use the SourceBrowser option during compilation. It is usually found in a .SB directory that stores the .BD files and the index file. The .SB directory is created in the current working directory from which the compiler is called.
BD file format details:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the BD files:
The BD file extension is quite common and does not have a uniform file format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 15% of all BD files start with the magic bytes 00 48 00 30 00 34 00 36, which are always the first bytes of this file format. These files contain text and words as well as binary data. The files are on average 77 KB in size and range from 40 KB to 170 KB. The file type is very recent. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. PRINTER and FORMPRINTER.
- 10% of all BD files start with the bytes LZ4Block crucial for this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 130 bytes to 990 bytes in size, with a median of 200 bytes. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. LZ4Block*. A common filename is 99.bd.
All other BD files (75%) have no consistent format, the following 8 formats exist: SQL, PDF, JSON, UTF-8, MAJOR and BRITONLEAPDIG. Sometimes used for skladi, crash, info, kdgl, album, block, gnubg, boss or qism. You can get all the details of your BD file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .bd file to analyze" above.
