Opening a BM File
The BM file type is primarily associated with Microsoft Paint.
What is a BM file?
In its primary use, a BM file is a bitmap image file. This type of file stores image data in a pixel grid, much like the common BMP format used on Windows.
Other noted uses include:
How to open a BM file
You need a suitable software like Microsoft Paint to open a BM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BM file format details:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the BM files looks like this:
Files with the BM extension are quite widely used. This file type is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in BM files:
- 25% of all BM files use the same file format, which have the signature BM. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The average file size is 120 KB with most files being between 4 KB and 1 MB in size. The file type was created 20 years ago but is still used today. A common filename is g10f.bm or tunn3l_v1s10n.bm. Such BM files store data about tunn and arial.
- 10% of all BM files start with the bytes MESH crucial for this file format. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 15 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 110 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. MESH, Data and Character. _TAG_ef.bm is a typical file name. Such BM files store data about wever and santa.
All the rest of the BM files (65%) have different formats, the following 10 formats can be found: Source, RIFF, asap, Movie and AGE. Files like these are sometimes linked to user, resultat, media, init, catch, fishing, pokemon or photo. If you want to find out which format your BM file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .bm file to view this image".

How to solve problems with BM files
- Associate the BM file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open bitmap image files. Because only the current version supports the latest BM file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Microsoft Paint update.
- To make sure that your BM file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BM file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
