The BTR file type is primarily associated with WMI.
What is a BTR file?
How to open BTR files
You need a suitable software like WMI to open a BTR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BTR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BTR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BTR file extension format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the BTR files looks like this:
The BTR file extension is used very often and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in BTR files:
- 45% of all BTR files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "46 43 00 00" at the beginning. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are often between 18 KB and 12 MB in size. The file type is very old but is also used today. Such files are related to article, tickbtchstation, func, employee, devises, client, infos, users and item.
- 30% of all BTR files are associated with FrontPage Binary-tree index. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are 320 bytes to 5 KB in size, with a median of 5 KB. Examples of file names are deptodoc.btr or doctodep.btr. Such BTR files store data about linkinfo and wwwroot.
The remaining 25% of all BTR files are files with no common format, often e.g. Gamebryo. Tagged as commonwealth, tamriel, account, customer, artikel or artirb. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your BTR file!
