What is a CFT file?

CFT files mostly belong to CryENGINE. CFT files are specialized data files used by various software applications.
In their primary form, they refer to the CryENGINE Character File Format used to store game character and configuration data.
Other usages include:

Music Files: These files can contain music notation data (Capella music files) used with Finale software. See more at Finale.

Compressed Data: Some CFT files hold compressed test results or flowchart tests using ZIP compression.

How to open a CFT file

You need a suitable software like CryENGINE to open a CFT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CFT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CFT file directly in the browser:. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the CFT files:

As a file extension, CFT isn't very common and has no uniform or dominant file format. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 20% of all CFT files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "LOCAL " at the beginning. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. CFT files can be up to 80 KB in size, but are often around 31 KB - 68 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: 300 dots/inch, LOCAL, 21 dots per staff line, Concerto No, pages, parts, Movement 2, Movement 3, Movement 1, Minor and Vivaldi, Antonio"Concerto. Some examples of file names are VivaldiOp3x10VL-1.cft. Files like these are about vivaldi.
• 10% of all CFT files start with the bytes 63 65 10 10 10 10 crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are on average 360 KB in size and range from 11 KB to 8 MB. The keywords 000000000000 and OYDU are typical for these files. Such files are related to item.

All the rest of the CFT files (70%) have different formats, often e.g. CFast Animation, ZIP, DOC and RSC. Files like these are sometimes linked to results, flodesbild, adder, character, crypt, model, bute or carb.
