Opening a CLD File
The CLD file type is primarily associated with CD-Label Print.
What is a CLD file?
- Main Use: CD-LabelPrint is a software owned by Canon that is bundled with Canon desktop printers. CLD file format is used to save CD/DVD label projects and pre-existing templates that can be used to create CD cover art. The software CD-LabelPrint allows users to design, store, and print out custom CD/DVD labels.
- Other Uses: CLD files are also used by the open-source antivirus application ClamAV to save uncompressed databases consisting of virus definitions and signatures. ClamAV's virus definitions are updated through the download and unpacking of compressed package files (CVD files) which are then used to replace the old CLD virus definition list. CLD file format can also refer to 3D point cloud files that save the scanned information of a 3D object through a list of three-dimensional point coordinates. Microsoft Flight Simulator and Microsoft ESP SDK use CLD files in modeling realistic looking clouds to simulate skyline in gameplay. Project Amateras is an open-source plugin that uses CLD files as class diagram files that are useful in designing UML (Unified Modeling Language) class diagrams.
How to open CLD files

If you cannot open your CLD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CLD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CLD format details:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the CLD files:
The CLD file extension is not found very often and includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 65% of all CLD files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. The file signature of compound files is defined as D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1, so the first character of a file looks like "DOCFILE". Sections and streams in the file are named Sheets and DataInfo. The files are often between 19 KB and 2 MB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. Such files sometimes refer to label, cover and disc, and often contain personal information.
- 4% of all CLD files save the data in XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The average file size is 110 KB with most files being between 60 KB and 420 KB in size. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and <net.java.amateras.uml.model.RootModel>.
All other CLD files (31%) have no uniform format, the following 4 formats can be found: Clam AntiVirus Database and Generated. Files like these are sometimes linked to payment, synchronous or design. Just click the "Choose your .cld file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your CLD file is.

How to solve problems with CLD files
- Associate the CLD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open label layout files. Because only the current version supports the latest CLD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Canon, Inc. manufacturer website after an available CD-Label Print update.
- To make sure that your CLD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CLD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
