Opening a CLR File

The CLR file type is primarily associated with Vue.

CLRFile Extension CLR
File extension: CLR
File type:  color map

What is a CLR file?

CLR files mostly belong to Vue by e-on. A CLR is a color palette (also called a color map, color table, or color swatch) used by various programs. Vue, ArcGIS, Animate, and Affinity Designer use color palettes saved in CLR files. An Affinity Designer color map (CLR), for example, contains colors for a vector image while an ArcGIS color map is applied to a raster dataset. Visual Studio's WinEdit class saves a colorization word list in a different CLR file. 3DS Max saves user interface colors (themes) in CLR files. Another type of CLR file is a spelling dictionary used by FileMaker relational database management system.

How to open a CLR file

You need a suitable software like Vue to open a CLR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CLR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CLR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CLR file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the CLR files looks like this:

The CLR file ending covers different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

All other CLR files (45%) have no uniform format, often e.g. 3ds UI colors, Macromedia Flash Color Table File and ColorMap. These files are often connected to colours, keynote, design, trinar, spray or ultra. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CLR file!

a clr color map is a special file format by e-on and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with CLR files

  • Associate the CLR file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open color maps. Because only the current version supports the latest CLR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the e-on manufacturer website after an available Vue update.
  • To make sure that your CLR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .CLR file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
