Opening CLS Files
The CLS file type is primarily associated with LaTeX.
What is a CLS file?
How to open CLS files
You need a suitable software like LaTeX to open a CLS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CLS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CLS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert CLS files:
- LaTeX by LaTeX Project
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. CLS files are often referred to as LaTeX developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- ArcGIS (geocoding classification) by ESRIArcGIS is a geospatial data visualization and data analysis software suite available as a desktop and web application. It uses geocoding classification saved in a CLS file. This file format is classified as GIS.
- Developer Console (class) by SalesforceDeveloper Console is an integrated development environment for writing, debugging, testing, and deploying applications in a Salesforce organization. It uses a CLS file to store a class containing custom triggers, actions and other code written in Apex programming language. Apex is based on Java idioms. This file format is classified as Developer. - PDF Tools (document) by WinnovativePDF Tools is a software suite for creating, editing, and publishing documents in Portable Document Format (PDF). It uses a CLS file to store a document in PDF format. This file format is classified as Data.
- Visual Studio (class module/definition) by MicrosoftVisual Studio is an integrated development environment for building cross-platform applications. It uses a CLS file to store class definitions and/or class modules. This file format is classified as Developer.
CLS file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our analysis of the CLS files produces the following result:
The CLS file extension is quite common and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 25% of all CLS files are Visual Basic class definition files. These files contain text and words, not binary data. A typical file size is 240 bytes. The file type is old but is used even today. The keywords BEGIN, MultiUse = -1 'True, VERSION 1.0 CLASS, Attribute VB_GlobalNameSpace = False, Attribute VB_Name, Attribute VB_Creatable = False, Attribute VB_PredeclaredId = True and Sheet are typical for these files. The file name Sheet1.cls is typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: this, hoja, form, analizer, document, workbook, outlook, session, feuil and plan.
- 8% of all CLS files have the same signature public . If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are often between 370 bytes and 9 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as public static, sharing class, String, public class, List and public with. These files are attributed to deal, trigger, helper, controller, handler and team.
The remaining 67% of all CLS files are files with no common format, such as PDF, ZIP, Source, HTML, NeedsTeXFormat, isTest, LZxrBhRgT and global. These files are often connected to data, report, exercise, service, save, account or resume. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your CLS file!

a cls document stylesheet is a special file format by LaTeX Project and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CLS files
- Associate the CLS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open document stylesheets. Because only the current version supports the latest CLS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the LaTeX Project manufacturer website after an available LaTeX update.
- To make sure that your CLS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CLS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
