What is a CPC file?

CPC files mostly belong to CPC Tool by Cartesian. CPC is the filename extension of black and white images compressed using Cartesian Perceptual Compression file format and compression method. CPC files are generally used to store or distribute documents containing text, building plans, halftone images, and maps saved as monochrome raster images. The compression method used for CPC files is lossy, however, the output file size is typically 20 to 50 times smaller than TIFF files. For this reason, CPC files impose less storage requirements and consume less bandwidth when transmitted over the internet. CPC View browser add-on can be used to open and view CPC files within a web browser (e.g. Chrome).

How to open CPC files

You need a suitable software like CPC Tool to open a CPC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CPC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CPC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
