What is a DB2 file?

DB2 files mostly belong to DB2 by IBM. DB2 filename extension is mainly associated with various database file formats. DB2, a family of database management tools developed by IBM store CLP data, OLE objects, OLE databases, and SQL procedure scripts in DB2 files. Version 2 of SQLite, an embedded database engine saves database files with DB2 filename extension. World of Warcraft, a cross-platform video game uses DB2 file extension to save its game database. Visual Studio, an integrated development environment for creating applications saves DB2 SQL scripts in files with DB2 extension. S.T.A.L.K.E.R, a first-person shooter game for Windows operating system also saves the game database in DB2 files. Structures, a building information management and modeling software saves its numbering databases as DB2 files too. DB2 file extension is also associated with video information files automatically generated by Samsung CCTV digital video recorders (DVR). Such DB2 files contain additional video information used by software such as Smart Viewer.

How to open a DB2 file

You need a suitable software like DB2 to open a DB2 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DB2 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DB2 file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DB2 files:

  1. DB2 by IBM
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DB2 files are often referred to as DB2 databases because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
  2. CLIPPUPPU (image database) by A.I.Soft
CLIPPUPPU was a clip illustrations management software with an image database of over 2,000 clip illustrations. The Image database was saved in a DB2 file with a corresponding DB1 file (often seen as AI_DPE2.DB1 and AI_DPE2.DB2). This file format is classified as Database.
  3. dBASE II (database) by dBase
dBase II was an embedded relational database management system used to provide persistent data storage in older computers. The program saved databases as DB2 files. Recent versions are simply called dBase and typically save databases as DBS files. Note that dBase II has been deprecated. This file format is classified as Database. Related links: dBase
  4. dBFast (database) by Broadcom
dBFast is a relational database management system based on the xBase programming language. It was developed as a dialect of dBase for Windows and OS/2 operating systems. dBFast database files had DB2 filename extension. This file format is classified as Database.
  5. Smart Viewer (video information) by Samsung
Smart Viewer is a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) software for monitoring, viewing, recording, and exporting video content from Samsung surveillance systems. Each BU video recording captured by a CCTV camera has a corresponding DB2 file containing additional information about the recorded video. Both files have the same base name. This file format is classified as Video.
  6. Visual Studio (SQL script) by Microsoft
Visual Studio is an integrated development environment for creating native and web-based computer software. It supports about 36 programming languages including .NET and Python. DB2 files used by Visual Studio contain DB2 SQL Procedure scripts. This file format is classified as Database.

DB2 format details:

If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the DB2 files:

The DB2 file extension covers different formats for different programs. The two most common formats are as follows:

The remaining 45% of all DB2 files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, SQL, GZIP and Soft. These files sometimes refer to media. If you want to find out what your DB2 file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with DB2 files

  • Associate the DB2 file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open database data files. Because only the current version supports the latest DB2 file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the IBM manufacturer website after an available DB2 update.
  • To make sure that your DB2 file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
