What is an EXP file?
How to open an EXP file
You need a suitable software like DesignerPlus to open an EXP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EXP file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EXP file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

EXP format details:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the EXP files is as follows:
EXP is one of the most common file extensions and covers a large number of different file formats. The file formats most commonly found in EXP files are:
- 20% of all EXP files are Medical record files. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. EXP files can be up to 1 MB in size, but are often around 39 KB - 390 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 1.00 SPLIT EXPWIN and Disco nr.001. These files are often associated with cartella, and often consist of personal data.
- 9% of all EXP files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "Y2hlY2tzdW1WZXJzaW9uPTEmYnVpbGROdW09N" at the beginning. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. EXP files can be up to 6 MB in size, but are often around 630 KB - 2 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as WZXJzaW, tzdW, uPTEmYnVpbGROdW, hvcnRQcm, kTmFtZT, FsZVZlcnNpb, TdHI, YWdlUGFjayUyMEVuZ, gmaGFzSEFQb, uaWNPUyUyMExhbmd, hBUG, wJnVzZXJJVj, MlMjBMYW, NhbGVWZXJzaW, RyPVNvbmljT and ndWFnZVBhY. Files like these have the following tags: sonicwall, soho, wireless, sonicos, firewall and settings.
All the rest of the EXP files (71%) have different formats, frequently e.g. Melco embroidery design, ZIP, DOC, JSON, GZIP, XML, EXE, EXPV, edata, ver, ValveLink, alignmentTool, Spinal and AMS. Files like these are sometimes linked to data, config, configuration, admin, biddeford, christmas, sewer or logo. Just click the "Choose your .exp file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your EXP file is.

How to solve problems with EXP files
- Associate the EXP file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open embroidery designs. Because only the current version supports the latest EXP file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Bernina manufacturer website after an available DesignerPlus update.
- To make sure that your EXP file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .EXP file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
