GBA file format:
To view or edit GBA files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the GBA files:
The GBA file extension is used very often and includes different formats for different programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in GBA files:
- 50% of all GBA files use the same file format, which have the signature 7F 00 00 EA 24. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are 16 MB to 33 MB in size, with a median of 16 MB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. POKEMON FIREBPRE01. The file name Pokemon - Fire Red Version (U) (V1.1).gba or Pokemon - Emerald Version (U).gba is characteristic of these files. Files like these have the following tags: pokemon, emerald, fire, fuego, edicion, versionu, fusion, grillo and lugre.
- 35% of all GBA files start with the magic bytes 2E 00 00 EA, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. GBA files are between 4 MB and 16 MB in size. Files like these have the following tags: mario, advance, super, europe, legend and zelda.
All the rest of the GBA files (15%) have different formats, often e.g. FJJ. Often described as ruby, dragon, world, mega, beta or bros. You can get all the details of your GBA file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .gba file to analyze" above.
