Opening a GBP File
The GBP file type is primarily associated with EAGLE.
What is a GBP file?
- Main Use: GBP stands for Gerber Bottom Solder Paste file. Autodesk EAGLE uses GBP files to save layout data for the bottom paste layer of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). This data is useful for generating stencils utilized in applying paste onto the board that is needed for attaching surface-mount devices (SMD), such as pads. The formatting of a GBP file is similar to that of the popular PDF file format, in its functionality. The GBP file format is made for reference purposes and should not be edited. GBP files can be opened using Autodesk EAGLE software on Windows and Linux platforms. Gerbv software can be used for the same on Macs.
- Other Uses: GBP file type is also associated with archive index files created by Genie Timeline, an application used in the backup and recovery of data from desktops and mobile devices. The GBP file contains the index of a set of files selected by the user for backup. The file can refer to a single or multi-spanned archive. Genie Timeline generates the GBP index file after the backup is finished. The GBP file is necessary for the successful restoration of the backed-up files. GBP file format is also associated with gBurner, an optical disc burning software for Windows PCs. The software stores the data project that can be published onto an optical disk. GBP files are also used by Genesis Enterprise software to save bitmap pattern data.
