Opening a GCA File
The GCA file type is primarily associated with G Compression Archiver.
What is a GCA file
- Main Usage: GCA is used to compress a file, folder, or multiple files and/or folders, to create a GCA file. This is done to compress the files into a single archive to reduce disk space required by the original files without losing any information stored in the original files. GCA files are similar to other compressed archive files, such as ZIP, 7Z, and files. Though other formats are more widely used, GCA files offer excellent compression ratios, superior to that of ZIP compressed archives.
- Support: GCA and GCA files are only supported on Windows. The GCA file format has very limited support and thus is not widely used. The file that replaced it, DGC, is improved in many ways, but still has very limited support and documentation. A major factor behind the lack of support on operating systems other than Windows is due to the fact that the format is not open-source.
How to open GCA files
You need a suitable software like G Compression Archiver to open a GCA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GCA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GCA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
