Opening a GSB File
The GSB file type is primarily associated with ArcGIS.
What is a GSB file?
The GSB file extension is used by different systems, each giving the file a distinct role:
- Geodetic Grid Shift File: Employed by GIS software such as ArcGIS, this file contains data for geodetic transformations. It holds grid shift values that help convert coordinates between different datums, for example in the Canadian Spatial Reference System. See more details on the ArcGIS Pro overview.
- Personal Finance Data: In the context of the Grisbi application, a GSB file is an XML-based file that stores personal finance records. It is used to manage financial transactions and budgeting data.
- Instrument Manager Configuration: Used by Waters Instrument Manager, this file contains configuration settings that guide instrument operation and calibration.
FilExt.com note: To open your GSB file, use the application that created it. Confirm the file’s origin if you are unsure which program is required.
How to open GSB files
You need a suitable software like ArcGIS to open a GSB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GSB file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GSB file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert GSB files:
- ArcGIS
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. GSB files are often referred to as ArcGIS gis because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Gain (Script Binary) by AIM SoftwareGAIN Data Management is a solution for the processing of pricing/static data, the processing of corporate actions, importing and mapping data feeds, and application of complex business rules. This file format is classified as Source Code.
- GeneSys (Battery File) by Psytech InternationalGeneSys can administer, score and generate reports on virtually any psychometric test, questionnaire and most surveys. All the custom questionnaire batteries within a GeneSys3 system may be exported to satellite systems.Once imported into the satellite system, unwanted batteries may be deleted if they are not required.
- Golden Software (Boundary Data) by Golden Software, Inc.Golden Software are makers of Surfer, Grapher, Voxler, MapViewer, Didger, and Strater. Golden Software is a provider of scientific graphics software. Golden Software Boundary Data files contain geographic and political boundary data in a binary format. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 47 6F 6C 64 65 6E 20 53 6F 66 74 77 61 72 65 20 42 6F 75 6E 64 61 72 79, ASCII: Golden Software Boundary.
GSB file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the GSB files looks like this:
GSB is seldom used as a file extension and is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The file formats most commonly found in GSB files are:
- 55% of all GSB files are NTv2 Standard Binary Grid Shift files. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. GSB files are between 83 KB and 83 MB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as GS_TYPE SECONDS, NUM_FILE, NUM_OREC, NUM_SREC, VERSION, XASUB, ?XAMAJOR_T, SYSTEM, PARENT, TXAMINOR_T u, TXAMINOR_F and TGRS. A usual file name is GDA94_GDA2020_conformal.gsb or GDA94_GDA2020_conformal_and_distortion.gsb. Such files are related to conformal, distortion, national, ostn, osgbtoetrs, ausgeoid, chenyx and beta.
- 20% of all GSB files are associated with Grisbi XML files, which internally utilize the well-known XML format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are on average 670 KB in size and range from 11 KB to 85 MB. The keywords <?xml version='1.0', backup_time, body, encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes', messages count, sms date and type are typical for these files. Some examples of file names are Backup2020-06-01 10-30.gsb.
The remaining 25% of all GSB files are different files with different signatures, the following 3 formats can be found: Golden Software Boundary data. These files are often connected to goventuresb. If you want to find out what your GSB file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for GSB File Extension
a gsb data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GSB files
- Associate the GSB file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest GSB file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ArcGIS update.
- To make sure that your GSB file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GSB file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
