What is a GXD file?

GXD files mostly belong to General CADD Pro. GXD files serve two distinct roles.
For one type, these files store General CADD drawings used in computer aided design. They are compressed using the GZIP algorithm.
  • This variant holds vector-based drawing data.
  • It is managed with General CADD Pro software. For more information, visit General CADD.
  • Another use of the GXD extension is for Caliper LabChip data.
  • This type contains lab instrument measurements and assay data.
  • It is often created by Caliper GXD Data Analysis Software or reviewed with PerkinElmer LabChip GX Reviewer. More details are available at PerkinElmer LabChip GX.
  • FilExt.com note: Each variant takes a specialized internal structure: one uses compression via GZIP and the other may use .NET based methods.

    How to open GXD files

You need a suitable software like General CADD Pro to open a GXD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GXD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GXD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert GXD files:

    1. General CADD Pro
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. GXD files are often referred to as General CADD Pro cads because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
    2. General CADD Pro (Drawing File) by General CADD Products, Inc.
This file format is classified as CAD/CAM.
    3. GX-Reports File
    4. Jeol EX Spectrometer Data File

    GXD file format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the GXD files:

GXD is rarely used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in GXD files:

The remaining 15% of all GXD files are files with no common format. Files like these are sometimes linked to planogram or model. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your GXD file!

How to solve problems with GXD files

    • Associate the GXD file extension with the correct application.
    • Update your software that should actually open cad design files. Because only the current version supports the latest GXD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available General CADD Pro update.
    • To make sure that your GXD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
