What is an HCD file?

HCD files mostly belong to Cypress WICED Studio. HCD files are used in several specialized fields. They do not follow a single standard format.

How to open HCD files

You need a suitable software like Cypress WICED Studio to open an HCD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. To view or edit HCD files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. The HCD file extension is rarely used and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 50% of all HCD files belong to HCD format firmware. They consist of unreadable binary data. A typical file size is 36 KB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. BRCMcfgD and BRCMcfgS. A common filename is BCM43430A1.hcd. Such files are related to download.
• 15% of all HCD files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "PDSH" at the beginning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 27 KB to 170 KB. The keywords HengQiang and PDSH are typical for these files.
