Opening an IDE File
The IDE file type is primarily associated with Arduino IDE.
What is an IDE file?
How to open IDE files
You need a suitable software like Arduino IDE to open an IDE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your IDE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a IDE file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert IDE files:
- Arduino IDE by Arduino
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. IDE files are often referred to as Arduino IDE developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- C++ Builder (project) by EmbarcaderoC++ Builder is an integrated mobile and desktop application development environment. Some versions use an IDE file to store a software project. This file format is classified as Developer.
- Grand Theft Auto IV (item definition) by RockstarGrand Theft Auto IV is an action-adventure video game available for PC, mobile, and console platforms. It uses item definitions saved in IDE files. An item definition comprises the ID and properties of models (cars, game characters etc.) used in the game. This file format is classified as Game. Related links: IDE
- ideCAD Architectural (architectural design model) by ideYAPIideCAD Architectural is a 3D architectural design and building information modelling program. It uses an IDE file to store a 3D architectural model. This file format is classified as CAD.
- ideCAD Structural (structural design model) by ideYAPIideCAD Structural is a software suite providing structural design and analysis tools for engineering, architectural, and construction projects. A 3D structural design created with this tool is saved in an IDE file. This file format is classified as CAD.
- Inventor (product part reusable feature) by AutodeskInventor is a computer-aided design software for Windows desktop. It provides professional solutions for 3D mechanical product design, simulation, and documentation. An iFeature created with Inventor is saved in an IDE file. An iFeature is a collection of features which may be used to create different variations of a part. This file format is classified as CAD. Related links: About iFeatures
- Sophos (threat detection data) by SophosSophos is a system security software capable of protecting computers against spyware, malware, and ransomware in a business or home environment. It uses an IDE file to store the ID and supplemental threat detection data of a virus. This file format is classified as Data.
- Visual Studio (repository configuration data) by MicrosoftVisual Studio is an integrated development environment that provides tools for building cross-platform applications. It uses a storage.ide file to store some configuration data of a project repository. This file format is classified as Developer.

IDE file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the IDE files looks like this:
The IDE extension is quite commonly used. The file itself includes different formats for the applicable programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in IDE files:
- 30% of all IDE files are Grand Theft Auto IV Item Definition files. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are often between 1 KB and 26 KB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. The files contain the following words: objs. The following filename is common: airport.ide or countn2.ide. These files are often associated with mods, generic and downtown.
- 25% of all IDE files are Grand Theft Auto III model IDs and properties files. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. Most of these files are 4 KB to 21 KB in size. The files contain the following words: # see default.ide for id ranges, # 0x01 gets streamed out after 1 car is generated (for dumpsters, MrWoopy etc), # 0x02 Don't use. Used by code internally, # flags, Model name, cars and peds. The file name vehicles.ide or default.ide is characteristic of these files. These files are attributed to peds.
The remaining 45% of all IDE files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. Borland C+, SQL, MKV, SOPH and txdp. Often described as auto. If you want to find out what your IDE file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

an ide sketch is a special file format by Arduino and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with IDE files
- Associate the IDE file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open sketches. Because only the current version supports the latest IDE file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Arduino manufacturer website after an available Arduino IDE update.
- To make sure that your IDE file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .IDE file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
