What is a JIF file?

JIF files mostly belong to XnView by XnSoft. JIF is a raster image file container format for saving images encoded using MPEG compression algorithm. A JIF file typically contains minimal image data, color space definition, pixel aspect ratio definition, and component sub-sampling registration data of a photo captured with older digital cameras and imaging devices. JIF files are used to exchange images between image processing platforms and programs. JIF filename extension is also associated with raster images saved in Jeff's Image Format which uses zlib-compression to save animated and still images (similar to GIF files). You may open these images with XnView.

How to open JIF files

You need a suitable software like XnView to open a JIF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your JIF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a JIF file directly in the browser:.
