What is a JPF file?

JPF files mostly belong to XnView by XnSoft. JPF filename extension is mainly associated with images encoded using JPEG 2000 Part 2 media compression standard. Uncompressed bitmaps, fax documents, and bitonal images may be saved in a JPF file. JPEG 2000 is an improved variant of the JPEG image compression standard, unlike JPEG which uses a discrete cosine transform (DCT) compression, JPF files are compressed with a discrete wavelet transform compression. JPEG 2000 Part 2 supports lossy and lossless image compression and it has a slightly higher compression performance. The contents of JPF files are saved in small, independent blocks and each component in the image may have up to 38 bits. JPEG 2000 compression has also been adopted for motion imaging by video recording devices such as Sony IP cameras. Videos captured with these devices are also saved in JPF files. BizPlanBuilder, a Windows-based business planning software saves business plans in JPF files.

JPF file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below is our analysis of the JPF files:

The JPF file type is a very commonly used file extension and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The two most popular formats are as follows:
