What is a JWS file?

JWS files mostly belong to Oracle WebLogic Server by Oracle. JWS stands for Java Web Services. The JWS file format is used by Oracle WebLogic Server. Oracle WebLogic Server is a platform for developing, deploying, and running Java EE applications. The core of a WebLogic web service is a JWS annotated file. The JWS file is a regular Java class file that stores Java code and uses JDK 5.0 metadata annotations to specify the characteristics of the web service. The Java class that implements the web service must follow a set of requirements as specified by the JSR-181 specification (Web Services Metadata for the Java Platform). The JWS format is also used by JDeveloper, which is a free integrated development environment (IDE) developed by Oracle. Projects are organized into workspaces in JDeveloper. The JWS format in JDeveloper is used by a Java workspace settings file. In this case, it is an XML file that stores configuration information for the workspace.

How to open JWS files

You need a suitable software like Oracle WebLogic Server to open a JWS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. • 20% of all JWS files start with the bytes L~S crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. JWS files can be up to 64 KB in size, but are often around 2 KB - 16 KB. The keywords i80x86, R2.0.0, SPECMAN and MSVC 1.0 are typical for these files.
