What is a LAN file

LAN files mostly belong to Leica Application Suite. For some software, a LAN file holds specific data rather than standard picture or text information.

How to open a LAN file

If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. The LAN file extension is rather rarely used and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 10% of all LAN files are ERDAS Image bitmap files. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 7 MB. The keywords HEAD74 are typical for these files. An example of a file name is 92AV3C.lan or flc1.lan.
• 10% of all LAN files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "LTANNBEGIN BEGINOBJECT 0 VISIBLE " at the beginning. The content consists of binary data as well as text and words. LAN files are between 360 bytes and 2 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 16777215, BACKCOLOR, BEGINOBJECT, FONTBOLD, FONTITALIC, FONTSIZE, FORECOLOR, LTANNBEGIN, OFFSETX, OFFSETY, SCALARX, SCALARY, VISIBLE and 13.3333333. The remaining 80% of all LAN files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, XML, LAN and oTI. These files are often connected to intro, data, language, tfevents, events, common or game.
