What is an LCS file?

LCS files mostly belong to League of Legends. LCS files are not a single file type but a file extension used for several purposes.
For example, some LCS files act as license files used by companies like ZTE UMS and ProtectDisc. These files store licensing information to validate and activate software.

How to open an LCS file

You need a suitable software like League of Legends to open an LCS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LCS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LCS file directly in the browser:. LCS is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type includes very many different file formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

10% of all LCS files have the same signature DEFAULTVERSION. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 69 KB. The files contain the following words: DEFAULTVERSION. The file name SAVE__.LCS is typical for these files.
9% of all LCS files use the same file format, which have the signature CAFF1691AC1C9A031B40AF850EF5412446A3B09553CFF14CF0. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. Most of these files are 18 KB to 170 KB in size. The keywords BDF8A881158BFB55E560CD94FF06F868 and CAFF1691AC1C9A031B40AF850EF5412446A3B09553CFF14CF0F7C7EE4328EEB19BECEE079FF5C442 are typical for these files. The following filename is common: ums-license.LCS.

The remaining 81% of all LCS files are different files with different signatures, the following 7 formats can be found: PNG and ProtectDisc.
