Opening an LSX File
The LSX file type is primarily associated with Divinity Engine / Excel.
What is an LSX file
The other form is a zipped spreadsheet file. This version wraps spreadsheet data in a ZIP archive similar to how Microsoft Excel handles .xlsx files. It holds XML-based spreadsheet information and can be opened with Microsoft Excel, as detailed on Microsoft Excel.
How to open LSX files
You need a suitable software like Divinity Engine / Excel to open an LSX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LSX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LSX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

LSX file format:
To find out what program is needed to open LSX files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the LSX files:
The LSX file ending predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in LSX files:
- 70% of all LSX files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are 550 bytes to 19 KB in size, with a median of 940 bytes. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The following keywords are characteristic: <save>, build, <node id="root">, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>, <header version="2", <version major="4", <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <children>, <region id="Config">, time, minor="0" revision="0", <version major="3" and <region id="ModuleSettings">. The following filename is common: modsettings.lsx or language.lsx. These files can be linked to settings, graphic, config, meta, icons, epilogue, descriptions and portraits.
- 20% of all LSX files are based on the zip format, so several files are combined and compressed into one LSX file. An LSX file contains 12 to 29 files, the average being 17. Common included file names are [Content_Types].xml, \_rels\.rels, \docProps\app.xml, \docProps\core.xml, \xl\_rels\workbook.xml.rels, \xl\printerSettings\printerSettings1.bin, \xl\sharedStrings.xml, \xl\styles.xml, \xl\theme\theme1.xml, \xl\workbook.xml and \xl\worksheets\sheet1.xml. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. A typical file size is 43 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: [Content_Types].xml. Examples of file names are file-20180601.lsx. Such files sometimes refer to xlsx.
The remaining 10% of all LSX files are different files with different signatures. These files are often connected to scene. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your LSX file!
