What is an LWO file?

LWO files mostly belong to LightWave 3D by NewTek. LWO file extension is typically used to store 3D objects created using LightWave 3D, a cross-platform 3D modelling and animation software. Contents of LWO 3D object files include polygons, points, surfaces, references to textures, as well as data for rendering a 3D object's shape and appearance (e.g. color, glossiness, transparency, shade etc.). Such 3D objects are stored as mesh in binary format and they have image/x-lwo MIME type. id Tech 4 video game engine (popularly known as Doom 3 Engine) and later versions use LWO format to store static meshes used in games. LWO files may be exported to other formats such as OBJ, STL, and DAE. Tstream Editor Studio, a text processing and translation software uses LWO file extension to store translation packages. Such LWO files use ZIP format and may contain translation proposals, notes, and PDF files.

How to open an LWO file

You need a suitable software like LightWave 3D to open an LWO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. How to convert an LWO file to OBJ, STL, PLY, 3DS, FBX, STP, ...
