What is an LZ file

LZ files mostly belong to lzip by Antonio Diaz Diaz. LZ is an extension that is derived from the LZIP format, a lossless data compression technique based on LZMA (Lempel-Ziv-Markov chain-Algorithm) designed by Igor Pavlov.

• Features: The LZMA format is often used for its lossless encoding and high-compression ratio. The high compression is due to the combination of two basic, well-proven compression techniques: sliding dictionaries (i.e. LZ77/78), and Markov models (a statistical model used by many compression algorithms). It uses a dictionary compression scheme and provides compression better than other formats such as bzip2. How to open LZ files
