What is an MCI file?

MCI files mostly belong to 7-Zip. MCI files serve two distinct roles.
These files are used as a zipped data export file. They are archives that use the ZIP format to bundle data into a single compressed package. Such files can be opened with decompression tools like 7-Zip or WinZip.

How can I open an MCI file?

You need a suitable software like 7-Zip to open an MCI file. To find out what program is needed to open MCI files, you need to determine the file format. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the MCI files is as follows:

MCI is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 60% of all MCI files internally use the ZIP format, that is, an MCI file includes multiple compressed files. The 2 to 2 compressed files are called data and md5. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. MCI files are between 10 KB and 5 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as data and dataUT. Examples of file names are export-20180601.mci.
• 10% of all MCI files have the same signature FISM. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 1 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as FISM, 00000000, CoolCube and Adm^.
