What is a MET file?

MET files mostly belong to Draw by Apache. MET filename extension is associated with cached files used by eMule, a peer-to-peer file sharing software. This MET file contains download links, download locations, download list histories, hashed IDs, file sizes, server addresses. OmniPage, a program used to convert paper documents to digital form, saves electronic documents in MET files. Overflow data used by the Macro Editor component of WordPerfect are also saved in MET files. Active Sky, a flight simulation software, saves weather conditions in MET files. HEC-HMS, a program used to simulate the precipitation-runoff processes of dendritic watershed systems, saves its meteorological model configuration in a MET file. Dragon Age: Origins video game saves each player's progress in an MET file. MET is also the filename extension of raster or vector images stored in OS/2 metafile format. Meteo data files used by PVsyst photovoltaic design and modeling program, also have MET filename extension.

How to open MET files

You need a suitable software like Draw to open a MET file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your MET file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a MET file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert MET files:

  1. Draw by Apache
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. MET files are often referred to as Draw raster images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
  2. ActiveSky (export data) by HiFi
ActiveSky is a weather monitoring and flight simulation engine for Windows operating system. The MET file used by ActiveSky is an archive of weather conditions (METAR, TAF and winds aloft station data) for specified locations and dates in flight simulators. This file format is classified as Data.
  3. Dragon Age: Origins (saved game) by Electronic Arts
Dragon Age: Origins is a third-person role-playing video game where the player (Grey Warden) must defeat the Archdemon and save the world. Saved Dragon Age: Origins game sessions are stored as MET files coded in the binary Generic File Format (GFF) version 4. This file format is classified as Game. Related links: GFF
  4. eDonkey (cached information) by MetaMachine
eDonkey is a discontinued peer-to-peer file download and sharing software. Some information cached by this program are stored in MET files. The KNOWN.MET cache file contains the file IDs of hashed files while PREF.MET stores cached preferences. This file format is classified as Data.
  5. eMule (cached information) by eMule Team
eMule is a peer-to-peer file sharing and download software that supports data exchange between client nodes. It also connects to the eDonkey and Kad networks. The MET files created by eMule contain cached information. For example, PART.MET file caches the file IDs that have been hashed so far. This file format is classified as Data.
  6. HEC-HMS (metereologic model configuration) by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Modeling System) is a program that simulates the precipitation-runoff processes of dendritic watershed systems. It may be used to model and analyze various types of watersheds. The meteorologic model configuration file used by HEC-HMS has MET filename extension. This file format is classified as Settings.
  7. OmniPage (document) by Kofax
OmniPage is a document scanning software that allows users to digitize paper documents and store them in electronic form. MET is one of the file formats for saving electronic documents created with OmniPage. This file format is classified as Data.

  9. PVsyst (metereological data) by PVsyst
PVsyst is a photovoltaic system modelling software that allows engineers, architects, and researchers to simulate photovoltaic systems in various weather conditions. It uses meteorological data saved in MET files. This file format is classified as Data.
  10. WordPerfect (overflow data) by Corel
WordPerfect is a word processing software for creating, editing, and sharing electronic documents. Top overflow data used by its Macro Editor component are saved in MET files. This file format is classified as Data.

MET file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the MET files is as follows:

The MET file extension has no uniform or dominant file format. The following file formats are most commonly found in MET files:

The remaining 85% of all MET files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. HEC-HMS Metereologic model configuration, OmniPage document, XML, GFF and PVObject. These files sometimes refer to known, solargis, server, meta, gameplay, title or ndvi. Just click the "Choose your .met file to view" button on this page to find out what your MET file is.

How to solve problems with MET files

  • Associate the MET file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open images. Because only the current version supports the latest MET file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Apache manufacturer website after an available Draw update.
  • To make sure that your MET file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .MET file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
